Canvas has added a new feature that enables teachers to override a final grade instead of having to manually adjust test/assignment/quiz scores to affect the final grade. Once the feature is set to "Allow" in Canvas Admin settings, according to Canvas, it cannot be turned off. What are the ramifications of it being set to on? I don't think teachers will find it - if it's on, will the computer automatically ask the teacher to override if the student has less than a 65?
Hi Rebecca Penina Simon - With the caveat that I don't think I've had anyone do this yet, we have it set to "Allow," as well, and the great thing about "allow" is that the instructors will have to opt into it, as well, on their end. So, an instructor will have to head to Settings>>Feature Options and then slide the toggle to "on." Finally, they will also have to enable it within the New Gradebook settings. This is explained here: How do I override a student's final grade in the New Gradebook?
So you're correct in thinking they're not going to see anything right away. And no, Canvas will not ask them anything; the column will appear in the New Gradebook and it will be incumbent upon the instructor to do an override, as outlined in that guide. So a bit of promotion/explanation will be necessary on your end (or whomever does it at your institution) to explain the process.
I hope this helps, Rebecca!
