Sorry if this seems like a ridiculous question. A fellow teacher uploaded his course to the Canvas Commons, and I should've realized that all of the grades would be wiped out. Oh well. I want to play with the new gradebook, but I don't have any courses with grades. What do I need to do? Do I need to ask another teacher to add me as an instructor to a course? Can there be more than one instructor in a course? Thanks.
Thank you. Yes, this definitely helps. The course I would be added to would be an old course. The students in that course have already graduated.
This might not pertain to your institution, but once courses end they become the course of record in case of audit or a disputed grade. Be careful that you don't change any grades that a student might come back in and question.
But I want them to be able to manipulate grades and other things. I would think they need to be signed in as a teacher in order to do that.

Yes, you can have multiple teachers in a course, some institutions will allow teachers to add teachers (via the "People" tag), but some require an admin to do this.
However, if you just want to become more familiar with the gradebook, you can test grades using the "test student" (How do I view a course as a test student using Student View?). It's generally better to "play" with fake grades rather than real ones. Your institution can probably create you a blank or generic "sandbox" course where you can experiment and "play" with different gradebook and course settings.
