I'm using canvas as an instructor. I'd like to learn how I can store a you tube video in my files for use with my students?
I vaguely remember a capability to link to a URL but I cannot locate it.
Thanks for you help
Hello Dave Simeone Welcome to the Canvas Community. Thanks for posting your question. You cannot put YouTube videos into your "Files" area of your course. Although I don't know the rules and regulations for this, I would think there are ramifications to downloading videos off of YouTube, so I would not recommend that. Plus, if you are linking to YouTube videos that you do not own, that's just another layer of potential legal stuff that I don't think you'd want to dive into.
What you can do, however, is link to or embed YouTube videos in your content pages of your course. Here is a helpful Guide for you:
How do I link to a YouTube video in the Rich Content Editor as an instructor?
One way that I particularly like to do is to embed YouTube videos on a page. I go to the YouTube video and grab the embed code. Then, back in the Canvas RCE (Rich Content Editor), I press the Alt+F9 keyboard combination to bring up a hidden menu. From that menu, I choose "Insert" >> "Media". Then, I click on the "Embed" tab. Finally, I paste in the embed code that I harvested from the YouTube video. After I press "Ok", the video is nicely embedded on my page.
I hope this information will be helpful to you, Dave.
