How many students can I have per course in the Free for Teachers version?
Hi Laura MacKinnon Welcome to the Canvas Community!
5,280! Oh wait, that's the number of feet in a mile.
Actually, while I am sure there must be a limit, it is rather astronomical, and you will likely not ever reach that limit.
On a practical side, large enrollments become challenging to manage in a Canvas Course - discussions become tedious, the gradebook takes forever to load, and SpeedGrader becomes almost useless. There are actually some great discussions about using Canvas for very large courses. Here are just a couple.
I hope this helps,
Hi there - thanks for your quick response!
I won't have huge enrollment in my courses, so that won't be an issue. Are there any limitations on this Free for Teachers version? Is it free for only a limited time? For context, I'm in a K12 environment.
Laura, as Kelley rightly surmised, there is no limit on the number of students in a Free for Teachers account, nor is there a time limit. The differences between paid and free Canvas are outlined here: Canvas Account Comparisons.
You might want to join the Free-For-Teachers group here in the Community by clicking on the Actions dropdown at the upper right of that group's home page; select Join Group to become a member.
Thanks for providing those additional details for Laura! But I still say it's 5,2080:-)
