The icons next to words like "Publish" and "Edit" now appear only as squares. How do I get the icons back?
If you are using another browser than Chrome and want to try clearing your cache before rebooting your computer Indiana University has a very good document in their knowledge base documenting how to perform this action on a myriad of browsers. How do I clear my web browser's cache, cookies, and history?
They'll come back in a bit. I've reported this a couple of times. It appears that Canvas is having some issues with some of their icons and favicons that are stored on cloudfront. They usually come back really quickly. If they get "stuck" gone, just reboot your browser or computer and that should bring it back.
Matthew, thanks for your response. I had somebody in my institution contact me with the same problem but I wasn't having the problem at all so I'm glad to know what is going on and can direct others to this discussion.
It's actually been happening for a couple of weeks now. It's the kind of thing that happens and goes away so quickly that most people probably think it was just something weird that was unique to their computer.
I had the same issue on one of my machines only (MacBook Air) with Chrome only. I have found the solution in my case:

We were experiencing this issue as well. You can immediately fix the issue in Chrome by clearing cache. Here's the steps I posted for my faculty:

Sorry about my earlier reply. I was getting this discussion confused with another discussion.
The user who contacted me about this was using Safari so it was not confined to Chrome for us.

Adam makes a very good point, namely that support will most likely advise users to try clearing their cache first, then will suggest trying a different browser, before they ask them to go on to the next step of rebooting their device. So if your icons disappear, use the resource Adam has provided above (now marked with Correct Answer) to clear the browser cache, and if that doesn't bring the icons back immediately, move on to the next step.
