If wondering if other institutions might be able to advise how they manage the accumulation of student accounts after years in Canvas. Currently, our provisioning creates a Canvas account for every student enrolment - even if the student won't be accessing Canvas. Apart from wanting to implement 'good housekeeping', we keep running into the issue of third-party apps wanting to charge us by the number of Canvas user accounts which is not a reasonable reflection of actual Canvas use. Institutionally, we are required to keep student accounts for five years to meet audit requirements.
Any nuggets of wisdom appreciated. What are other institutions doing to manage user accounts and third party costs?
