After you write a lengthy comment and then you get an error message and the comment totally disappears, is there any way to retrieve it? This has been happening regularly and is very, very frustrating.
Generally we have seen this happen when a session times out, unfortunately, there is no way to retrieve the text if you have not saved it elsewhere.
I recommend that you prepare the text in either Microsoft Word or your text editor of choice and then copy it into Canvas to submit so that you don't suffer timeouts and losing the text. Unfortunately, I wish I could give you better news but I hope that helps to avoid the issue in the future.
