I use turnitin with Canvas. How do I also add a rubric to those assignments?
Hello Claudia Staude, if you are using the Turnitin LTI, the best way is to add the rubric in Turnitin, that way it is available to you while you are in the feedback studio doing the markup and looking at what Turnitin similarity report.
If you are just using the Turnitin plagiarizing tool (you are just selecting Turnitin as the plagiarism tool when building the assignment) then you save the assignment and on the screen that comes up (the assignment screen) is the "+ Rubric" button so you can add the rubric there. This would be your option if you are using the Canvas SpeedGrader to grade.
Hope that helps!
Thanks so much for your help! I was able to successfully add the rubric.
Claudia, to add a rubric to a Canvas assignment of the external tool type (e.g. Turnitin), the instructor would add the rubric before selecting External Tool as the assignment type. In other words, during the assignment drafting process, save the assignment as an online submission type, then add the rubric as Nick has directed, and then go back to change the assignment to External Tool. The instructor can then save and publish the assignment.
I can't get this to work. I created the assignment and selected turnitin. Then, after that, I added the rubric. When I go to turnitin to see and grade the student work, the rubric is not there. I have used turnitin with non turnitin rubrics before (moodle) and it is awesome. Advice? TIA
Randi Hawkins, you need to add the Rubric before selecting Turnitin if the rubric is not already in Turnitin. So you create the assignment and choose online submission and pick like text entry and then add the rubric. Then go back and switch the submission type to external tool -> Turnitin External Framework. This should send the rubric into Turnitin.
Thanks. Very helpful.
