Incorporating Mute/Hide option for New Gradebook

In New Gradebook, has anyone dealt with, or heard about restrictions concerning grading exams early, and not having the Mute/Hide Grade functionality available? I have two professors that experienced this last night.

They found a work around and gave the Test Student a “0” and it allowed them to hide the grades.

They also made a recommendation that they incorporate the previous Mute/Hide option for the official release. 

Any information regarding this issue is valuable.

I imagine they are hiding from Speedgrader, that only allows you to hide grades for those already graded.  If the teacher wants to hide grades before starting to grade my experience is they need to do it from the Gradebook, and change the Grade Posting Policy to "Manually."  In my opinion this is where Canvas really dropped the ball in the new gradebook.  It is not intuitive at all!!
