How to pause and play e-Lectures

I'm having some issues with some of the e-Lectures my neurology professor has uploaded to canvas. Essentially some of the lectures he has uploaded open in the canvas media player and give me full control to pause, play and skip ahead, much as you would any other media player. However, the vast majority of the lectures he has uploaded operate differently; I am only able to move between the next and previous slides, and am unable to pause and play at will. I suspect the way in which he has uploaded the latter type is as a powerpoint presentation with embedded audio files, whereas the former act more like videos. Is there anyway to pause and play these other lectures because trying to study from them when you can't pause to take notes is next to impossible
