Create/Submit a Group Collaboration as an Assignment

 - Assign student groups a collaborative assignment as a graded assignment (instructor feature).

I have a teacher who created a bunch of groups and then assigned each group a collaborative document. She wants this document submitted as an assignment for each group. I have a bunch of ideas in my head, but I was wondering if someone could give me an example of the easiest way to go about doing this. Neither the teacher nor the students have ever used either Collaborations OR Groups before, and I am trying to come up with the simplest way of explaining it remotely, as they are not face-to-face at this point.

I am thinking she creates a group assignment for each group and then they submit the URL of the collaborative document? Am I on the right track?

Hi, Nancy! I guess you are totally on the right track, I can't think on any other solution to accomplish group collaboration assignments in Canvas! I was just doing some research about this very same topic to produce a quick tutorial when I found this post of yours and really helped!

It just occurred to me a much simpler yet very functional solution! The Canvas Pages can be collaborative spaces. You create a group assignment with URL submission as delivery method and individual grading. Each group of students will have their own space to work in the Canvas Groups. In there they could work in a Canvas Page building the assignment response.

They will deliver their Canvas Page URL to the assignment. The teacher will be able to open the Page inside SpeedGrader (it will open the entire Canvas inside the SpeedGrader) and through the function View Page History the teacher will be able to navigate in all different revisions saved by each student during the construction of the assignment (timestamps are shown).

It doesn't mark the content that was edited by each student like the Google/O365 option. It will show the entire page modification saved by the student. By elimination would be possible to see how the document evolved and the students that contributed more!
