I have canvas for teacher material imported 

school is not listed when a student is registering

Where do I find the invitation code to give to student?

We have a couple resources that are hopefully helpful for you.  The first is a high level Getting Started with Canvas as an Instructor Flowchart.  Since it sounds like you're just getting started, this may be helpful?

If your school is administering Canvas, they may need to manage the enrollments for you.  If not, and you're able to enroll students, https://community.canvaslms.com/docs/DOC-12973 should help.

I would like for my school to offer canvas for  my students distance learning. When signing up it asked if I was a teacher or student. I selected teacher. How do I sign up for a school account

We're so excited that you setup a free-for-teacher account and are interested in setting up an account for the entire school.  There is a "request information" button at the top of https://www.instructure.com/. Please fill out that form, and we're also passing on your information to sales.
