Mechanics of Offering Class to Students

I am a private consultant who does instruction at several colleges and with several corporate clients. I have a State approved training program which before COVID-19 was done face to face.

I have created the course cards and am creating the content to do online training.

I have no problem with crating the course cards what I don't understand is how to get it so I can register students to take the courses.

I need help to get my work online.

In order to assist you, our members will need more information: are you creating these courses in a Canvas instance that is separate from those used by the colleges for whom you are consulting, or do the training courses reside in each college's own Canvas instance?

I currently am either Adjunct faculty at 2 colleges and a contractor at three others. I also have a number of corporate clients separate from the colleges who are in need of online training as well.

Only one of my colleges is currently hosting my program on their Canvas site, but can't take on the other jurisdictions that I train in as they are out of their County.

I would like to be able to offer the training through a site where I can provide this licensure training without going through a college. I was hoping that there was a way I could offer it to a broader audience. I currently, prior to Covid, trained 800 commercial swimming pool operators in the State of Maryland. I am currently almost at a standstill, unless I can get my program out and online. I am just completing my first Canvas class tomorrow at Anne Arundle Community College. But they can't host programs out of their area and I work statewide.

Any suggestions?

 @chesaqua ‌, one solution would be to create a Free For Teachers account (How do I sign up for a Canvas account as an instructor?), create the courses there, and request a list of names and email addresses from the schools for which you are performing the training. You would then enroll them in the appropriate courses using the instructions in How do I add users to a course?

I have created a Free for Teachers account. I have created the courses there. What if I want to teach the courses independent of the colleges for my corporate clients separate from the college system. Is there a way to do that? That is where I am stuck.

If I understand correctly

When I am giving a course for my corporate clients or private groups, once they give me the names and emails of the students who will be taking the program.

I add those names to the user enrollment for that program. I think in my case I would need to do that via Open Registration as they probably don't have a Canvas account.

They will receive an invitation to the course.

They must accept the invitation before they can take the program.

Am I correct so far?

Would it make sense to have them open a Canvas course as they inform their employer that they want to sign up for the course?

What else do I need to know to get them started or make their life easier?

Is there a basic tutorial for them when they open a Canvas account on how to navigate the program or do I need to send them more specific instructions.

What have I not thought about that I should think about but don't know enough to ask?

 @chesaqua ‌, addressing your last question first, since this isn't something with which I have direct experience, I'm going to switch the format of this conversation to a discussion and share it to a few groups whose members might be able to share their processes for offering and coordinating a training effort of this type.

In Free For Teachers, you can use the lists provided by the institutions to enroll your students: How do I add users to a course?  Students will then receive course invitations and will be prompted to create credentials when the click on the invitation link: How do I sign up for a Canvas account as a student? 

You'll find a plethora of basic tutorials and resources for students (and teachers!) in Guides‌.
