When gradebook won't allow me to mark an individual student's assignment as complete

I have a few individual student assignment submissions that will not allow me to mark the assignment as complete.  How do I fix this?

The rest of the assignment submissions allow me to mark the grade as complete.

Hi, Mechelle,

Are the cells completely grayed out? If so, you may have excluded the students from the assignment as part of an assignment group or individual user. Grayed out cells are usually the common scenario in this situation, as noted in this lesson: https://community.canvaslms.com/docs/DOC-26423-how-do-i-use-the-icons-and-colors-in-the-gradebook 

Another option could be if your institution uses grading periods and the assignment is now in a closed grading period. However, that would affect the entire assignment column and not just select students.
