Instructor cannot access a group discussion she started

A first-time Canvas instructor has sorted her class of 40 into groups. She wanted to discuss Group 2's project with them, so she created a discussion, linked it to Group 2, and wrote a lengthy prompt. When she saved and published the discussion, she found she could no longer access it. Her words:

 

My post is listed but there is no content. When I try to open it, it says I can't view the post because I'm not in the group. One of my students in the group could open the post but there was no text associated. Here is a screenshot:

My questions are these:

  1. An instructor can normally read all discussions she or a student creates in a group, yes?
  2. What likely happened to the discussion text that neither she nor the student can see the prompt?
