Term dates, course dates & Conversations

Our faculty often want to email students in a past course to invite them to upcoming events or let them know about a new, related course. Once a course has "ended" via a Course Date or via an ending Term Date, can the instructor still start a conversation with students in that course?  It looks, from masquerading as an instructor in a course with an end date, but Term Date not yet ended, that the instructor can still do that.  Will students be notified of events originating in a course that has ended (student access ended via Course End Date and via Term Date access for students)?

We're still grappling with all of the different Term/Course dates and trying to understand the implications.  I've read all of the posts about these issues, but none specifically address Conversations.  I had a student test create a Conversation message in a course that has ended and he can no longer email any of the other students in the course.

Thanks for any assistance!
