Appointment Groups to setup Conferences

Is there a way to set up an Appointment Group using the Scheduler on the Calendar to let students sign up for individual Conferences? If the Location says "Conferences" and the Appointment Details tell students to click on the Conferences on the left side of the screen, will they be able to see and connect with the instructor or will the instructor need to invite them into the Conference? (Assuming that the instructor has a Conference setup and open at that time.) I don't see anything documented or any answered questions about this, so I'm hoping someone here has experience with this and can provide some guidance.
