I'm creating menu items via the Redirect Tool.
Is there a way to have these menu items display for teachers only and not students?
We were recently investigating this as well. Unfortunately since a Redirect Tool navigation link is not one of the core navigation items, it disappears entirely from the navigation menu, rather than displaying in a greyed out state (unavailable to students), when you move it to the disabled list at the bottom of the navigation settings.
There is lengthy discussion on this page (Redirect Tool app is there a way to assign a user role? ) that I found that talks about how you can adjust the visibility setting of the tool using API and/or XML. Not exactly something that our instructors would be doing for themselves, unfortunately.
Hi Matt McLean - I'm sorry that your question has been unanswered for so long!
I believe that if you use the Redirect Tool and you check the box that says "add to Course Navigation", you should be able to hide the link from students. To do this after adding the app (and completing the steps in the dialogue box), go to Settings then Navigation. From there, you can drag the item you created using the Redirect LTI down to the bottom of the list of items. The top list will hold items for students' navigation, where the second list will hold items that are also visible to teachers.
Here's a guide to help too:
How do I reorder and hide Course Navigation links?
I hope this helps!!
I just created this Feature Request (Add visibility to Redirect Tool app configuration ) in hopes that they can make the course navigation visibility setting an easy drop-down choice from the app configuration settings. It would be nice if our instructors can easily make this choice for themselves without having to get into APIs and XML. Appreciate your votes if you think it's something that you think might be useful.
