Would someone explain the difference between an LTI and an External Application?Perhaps they are the same thing.
Thank you kindly.
Hi The specified item was not found.,
Here's how I understand it, and someone please correct me if I'm way off; an "external app" is one that functions completely independent of Canvas. You might link to the app from within Canvas itself, but there isn't any account info, submission data, or any type of anything (if that makes sense) passing back and forth between them. An LTI on the other hand conforms to a set of software standards that allows it to be plugged in to multiple different learning management systems, complete with data interchange.
For example, a hot one in the community right now is Turnitin, as they are deprecating their legacy code and pushing their customers to use their LTI tool instead. The Turnitin LTI allows assignment information like points, due dates, submission status, grades, and originality reports to be passed back to Canvas after a student submits an assignment using the LTI.
Hope this helps!
That makes it clear.
Thanks for being awesome Brian.
