If you accidentally import a template that is not compatible with your class structure, is there a way to export it without losing your original content?
Thanks for the additional details, Larry. Unfortunately, there isn't an actual "undo" function that you could employ after you've imported content from Commons into a live or active course. However, Canvas Support just might be able to roll back the course to a previous state, and that would probably solve your dilemma. I recommend that you open a support case by clicking on the Help button and selecting the Report a Problem option from the help menu.
Larry, generally speaking, it's possible to remove unwanted content, but without knowing the specifics of what you've imported into your existing course and how it interacts with the existing content, it's difficult to diagnose. Can you provide some details about the template you imported? Also, do you mean that you want to preserve the template by exporting it, or do you want to remove it from the course?
Also, I wanted to let you know that I edited the title of your post because it previously repeated the entire question, which is already contained in the body of the post itself. I've also changed the nature of your post to a question, because it is ultimately likely to elicit a single answer that can be marked "Correct Answer"; if it becomes evident that the discussion is taking a more open-ended path, we can always change it back to a discussion. Last, I've shared the question with the Instructional Designers group since the members there have considerable experience with course design templates.
I recently added a template to my class, in order to use its simplistic interface. Upon importing it from the Commons, I realized that this template will not be functional with the class that I am teaching. I am wanting to get rid of the template that I imported, without losing the original content I built for my class. I do not want to reset the whole class, because that would delete all the work that I have already built. I guess I'm looking for an "undo" button.
