Are you committed to open education? If so, how are you using Canvas to contribute to the open education movement? What do you wish you could do, but can't?
Hi, I would love to see courses be made open for other instructors to build off of. Eg an Open Algebra 1 course for example. I would want to use OpenEd's formative assessments, utilizing Canvas for discussion, links to videos and games etc.
I found a Week Zero course, completely changed it for our own needs, and shared ours to Canvas Commons. I like to embed twitter feeds on homepages, and embed wordwalls and thinglinks into discussions. I like the feel of an internet tapestry in my courses.
I completely agree! With so much great content available out there on the internet, and such strong ways of building communities of learners, we have become more like curators of content, rather than creators. I hope we see more instructors adopting this method in the future!
Great point. I feel like the whole point of the #GoOpen initiative is to help drive this point home... so often we ask students to be creators of content and be able to modify others work in order to fit their performance needs (Soundcloud, google image search "reusable with modification" etc). Yet many professors/teachers feel like they have to recreate the wheel.
