Is it possible to weight quizzes or do I need to group them into assignments first?
Tuesday, technically yes, you could wait until the end of the quarter, but I think students will be more upset if they think they're getting one grade at the end of the quarter and then you change it on them. Or, do you mean change it for the next quarter? If so, then yes, you could definitely do this as well.
In Assignments (the link on the left in your course) you would go and organize your content into the appropriate Assignment Groups. In this case you'd keep the pre-lab quizzes that are all worth 10 points into one Assignment group and make it worth 30% of the course grade. You'd also organize the other assignments into the appropriate Assignment Group and give them the correct percent that those assignments are worth.
Here are some guides that might help with this:
How do I add an assignment group in a course?
How do I weight the final course grade based on assignment groups?
Hope this helps!
Tuesday, it depends on what you're trying to do and how you want the rest of your gradebook to work. Check out the following document and see if it helps answer your questions - Understanding how grades are calculated when using Assignment Groups - if it doesn't help then provide additional information about what you're trying to accomplish and we'll see what we can do to help!
Yes, that was helpful. So I will need to group my quizzes into
assignment groups, I'm hoping I can do that at the end? What I did was
assign quizzes in modules. Our labs are kind of complicated and that
seemed the easiest way to do it. There are pre-lab quizzes all worth 10
points, but only worth 30 percent of the overall grade. There are other
assignments, a lab report, project stuff, etc. that are weighted
higher. Will I be able to fix this at the end of the quarter? If I try
to change it now, students will be very upset!
