How do I regrade a multiple choice quiz after deleting two questions from the quiz? (quiz already completed by students)
Martha, I tested this with my own class (in the Canvas beta environment) and Canvas will not automatically regrade the assignments. If you go to Speedgrader for your quiz and scroll to the very bottom you should see a notice at the bottom similar to this, "Since student X took this quiz, the number of points possible has changed by -2.00. You can adjust for this change and manually add positive or negative points using this box." This indicates that if you want the grade to change you'll need to go in student by student to change it. Also, if you check the gradebook you'll see that right now the extra points from the deleted questions are counting as extra credit. If you're ok with this you can leave it, but otherwise you'll need to manually fix all of the student's grades.
Have you looked at the guides here:
What options can I use to regrade a quiz in a course?
Yes I have looked at the section on regrading – I know that I can simply delete a question from the quiz, but where is the option to regrade after that? I can’t seem to locate it at that point in the process.
Yes I agree the only option is to manually re-grade all quizzes, then manually change the grades in the Gradebook – very disappointing there is no easier solution to this.
Thank you for the help!
Martha Acosta, as long as you change the grades in Speedgrader it will automatically update/fix the grades in the gradebook. But yes, still very time consuming.
Yes I started there – all the options shown in the example (in that section) assume that the question will remain on the quiz with a different response being changed; however I need to delete the entire question then regrade the quiz. The original quiz (total points) was 80 points, but it needs to get regraded out of a new total of 78 points (delete 2 questions).
After a little more digging, it looks like the feature you are looking for does not currently exist in Canvas. This is a request here:
Drop questions on quizzes I'd like to be able to drop questions and then have Canvas recalculate scores.
I would recommend adding you comments to this request. As for the grading portion, you may need to use the fudge points or leave the questions in the quiz and regrade them marking them as correct for all users.
I did add the suggestion and noted the previous discussion about this issue so hopefully the Canvas team would consider adding that feature in the near future.
At this time, the only option is to regrade each student’s exam manually then re-enter their grade manually – very time-consuming!!!
Hope the suggestions/voting for this change comes to fruition.
Thank you for the assistance,
By re-entering manually, do you mean in the Grades section of Canvas?
