Hi all,

If you change the points of a question in a quizz that has been already taken by the students, do the grades change automatically in the gradebook? Thanks

Hi Silvia Carrasco...

The short answer to your question is "no". To test this, I went into my own sandbox course as the "Test Student" and took a three-question quiz (first two questions were one point each, and the third question was three points ... for a total of 5 points). As the "Test Student" I got the first question correct and part of the third question correct...for a total of 2.5 points out of a possible 5 points. Then, I went back as my instructor role and changed the number of points possible for the first question from 1 point to 2 points...bring the total points of the quiz up to 6. After I saved my changes, I looked at both the "Test Student" and the instructor role, and the score for the "Test Student" still way 2.5. It did not go up to 3.5 because I had increased the point value of question 1 by a point.

Hope this helps!

To add to the information Chris provided, to update the student's scores you'd need to go in to each individual student and "update" their scores - button at the bottom of the speedgrader quiz page.

Thanks Chris, good to know. I was just trying to figure out a way in which the students finish and online test and do not have access to their points immediately and I though in having all the questions as 0 points and then when they are done changing to the actual points. Now I know it will not work.

Thanks a lot for your answer. It has been very helpful!

Hi Silvia Carrasco...

If you didn't want your students to immediately see the points of the quiz, probably the easiest way to do this would be to "mute" the quiz prior to students starting the quiz. Then, you can review all quizzes and "unmute" the quiz...allowing your students to see the scores.

How do I mute or unmute an assignment in the Gradebook?

Or, there are settings in the quiz that would let you specify when students can see answers to the questions, too.

Hope this helps!
