Two questions: Is there a way for me to view a student's password?
Is anyone else having trouble resetting passwords?
Could you provide me with more information? Are you Admin or faculty? Are you using Free-For-Teachers, or a hosted installation?
Passwords are managed at the Admin level for hosted installations of Canvas, and are typically set to follow some default format as part of the account creation process. This can be different at every installation. For example, our college is part of a state consortium but each college is its own installation; however, our consortium developed our integration with our student information systems, and developed our default password format. Password changes in this system is an admin function, and it is working perfectly for us.

I am faculty using the Free-For-Teachers. It seems to me I am logged in to canvas but when I try to go back to the Instructure dashboard, I am prompted to log in. When I try, it gives me an error message, and although I've requested the password reset, I have not gotten an email in the inbox, clutter or junk email boxes related to the account associated with my on-line course.
I was afraid you would say that. I have no experience with Free for Teachers. I am going to see if I can get one of the Community Managers to point you in the right direction.
In the mean time, I did find a Free for Teachers Community group, and you may be able to either find your answers in there, or connect with someone helpful.
