Can the total column be removed or at least hidden?
Hey Cheryl Oldfield
If you want to hide the total grade summary for students check out this guide: How do I hide totals in my students' grade summaries?
If you wanted something else could you describe what you're looking for in a bit more detail?
Thank you so much for your reply! I thought that was it - but it didn't take the column out. I tried logging out and back in - which I didn't think I had to do. However, when I go into the gradebook - the total accumulated score column is still there. I thought maybe I didn't actually click the update button so I went it - the box was checked - and I updated again - and saw the message at the top of the screen that said it had been updated. At this point, I'm not sure! The faculty member just wants to take that column out and it doesn't seem to work.
So that guide I referenced hides the total from the students view. This can be confirmed from an instructor's perspective by using Student View (What is Student View?). This does not affect the instructor's access to the total grade information or change the way their gradebook looks.
If the instructor only wants to remove the total grade column from their gradebook, while changing nothing else, I am not sure I have a good solution for that and I am reluctant to investigate it further without a clear explanation of the purpose. There is always the solution of "Don't scroll that far to the right..."
I have no idea why I didn't realize that. I knew it was something ridiculous I was doing!! She said she hasn't set her grading scale and doesn't want the students to see it. I'm going to go with what you have given me works. Thank you so much for your help. I must not have searched the right sequence of words! I truly appreciate your help! Have a good weekend!
Great, I hope this accommodates the instructor's needs.
