I immediately looked up Carol Dweck...and it led me to a TED talk...and I am obsessed with TED talks and cannot believe I never saw hers before...I can't thank you enough Laura Gibbs for sharing your passion. It's also nice to know there is a strong community of colleagues dedicated to their craft. I grew up in a school where most lived in the Tyranny of Now and I fought hard to get a good education... in my junior year my Catholic school was about to shut down and the local public school was ranked 422 out of 500 in the state...I could have shut down too-getting caught up in "what do I do next?"...instead I found a way: a prep school that took a chance on a kid with poor standardized test scores from a poor area who went on to study Spanish/Classics while traveling the world..not too shabby even if I had to take a note from Goldilocks on finding the school that was just right...Looking forward to the next in your Learning with Cats series!
Growth mindset is, for at least some of the my students, the single most important thing they take away from my class, and I am very happy about that! :-)
Plus, it's FUN. Even better!
Love this! Laura Gibbs you are a kindred spirit. I've long maintained that anything I can learn, I learn better if a cat will demo it for me.
