The Instructure Community will enter a read-only state on November 22, 2025 as we prepare to migrate to our new Community platform in early December. Read our blog post for more info about this change.
I imported an old Canvas course into a current one. In creating a new assignment, I opened one of the old imported assignments in edit mode, copied the content, and pasted the content into the new assignment. My Canvas tabs promptly froze. I could not scroll up or down in the page of with the pasted content, nor click to move the cursor to another spot. The entire browser seemed to get bogged down (using Chrome on Windows 10), so that it would take a full minute to switch to another tab after clicking.
I have tried quitting Chrome and restarting a couple of times, and the same behavior keeps occurring. If it is relevant, there are displayed equations in the content I am copying and pasting.
Good evening, @barsmith ...
I think your workflow to create a new assignment based on an existing assignment could use a little tweaking. Rather than copying/pasting content from the existing assignment to a brand new assignment, have you instead tried using the "Duplicate" feature? This simply creates an identical copy of your assignment in the same course that you can then edit as needed. See How do I duplicate an assignment? for more details.
I hope this will be of some help to you. Keep us posted here in the Community if that solves the issue where things are freezing up for you.
Take care, stay safe, and be well.
