[ARCHIVED] How can a Student upload a PDF as an in-line preview in a Discussion Board?

I know how to insert a PDF which opens as an in-line preview as an instructor (Like this tutorial). However, I want my students to be able to do this as well. When I attempt this as a test student, I do not get the option to upload a file or see "my files" - only course files. 

Is this possible or is there a work around (other than having students save their multi-page PDFs as individual jpgs and embedding them....).
