Hello
I have recently imported content from one course to another.
However since doing so both courses second pages seem to have lost the 'next' button in the lower right hand corner of the page.
I have created my own button on the home page that links with the second page (first page in the module).
The link works fine.
However when you click to progress/ be taken to the first page of content neither a 'previous' or 'next' button are appearing in the lower navigation pane area.
Please advise?
@r_evans_4 , in order for the Previous and Next buttons to show up the content needs to be in a course Module. Can you verify that the content you copied over from the other course was then added to a Module? Try access the content from Modules and see if the Previous and Next buttons are showing up.
Let us know what you find!

Hello Kona,
Yes the page is located in the ‘modules’ section.
When I click the individual page from the modules section the ‘next’ button is shown.
However when running the course through from the home page the button is lost.
If you can provide any further advice or guidance it would be much appreciated.
Kind regards
Rachael

@r_evans_4 , I believe it's that a Home page isn't in a series of pages (like it is in the Module), so Canvas doesn't assume that you would want it treated as if it was in the Module order. So my guess is that this is intended behavior.

Hi @r_evans_4
Part of the problem is a general misunderstanding of many newer Canvas users that Module content lives in the Module. The reality is that module content is only being displayed in the module, but lives in its own designated content areas - pages live in Pages, assignments in Assignments, etc.
When the content is displayed in a module, Canvas provides the Next and Previous buttons to aid user sequential navigation through the Module.
However, when that content is not displayed in a module, Canvas does not provide those navigation aids.
When you are using Canvas content as a home page or are linking to content from the Home page, Canvas treats that content like it is in its home index area, and not as a part of a modules - thus no navigation buttons at the bottom.
I hope this helps,
Kelley
Hi Rachael Evans,
This happens when accessing 'content pages' in the left hand course menu item 'Pages', and the same 'content pages' aren't deployed in/through a 'Module'.
If all 'content pages' and other content items are deployed in 'Modules, the 'Nest' and Previous' buttons will always be at the bottom of the page/item that is displayed through 'Modules' until the final item in the last Module. Remember that all items deployed in/through Modules, must be 'published' in their native content areas (Pages, Quizzes, Discussions, etc.) in order to be available in/through the Module. I hope this addresses your issue.

Actually, I just landed on this page because a recently installed Canvas site of mine also has this problem. It is a discussion. In my late-start class, the NEXT button does not appear at the bottom of the discussion screen, however, it DOES appear exactly there in another Canvas site, although neither discussion is part of a module. Any ideas why? I can work around it by just telling students "click here to proceed" and inserting a link, but the NEXT button would be preferable. Thanks!
I have a teacher who is experiencing the same issue on her home page. She created a page to assign as the Front Page and it displays fine on the home page, however there is a "next" button at the bottom when you view it in the Pages section but NOT when you view it on the Home page. I can't find how she even got it there in the first place either. Any ideas??
I am having this same problem. I have pages that are all part of a module. The "previous" and "next" buttons are not showing even though I am accessing the page directly from the module in which is appears.
