[ARCHIVED] Student Annotation Assignments

Hello,

I am helping a teacher who is using the new(ish) Student Annotation assignment type in Canvas. We are having an issue where a student will complete their annotations and submit the assignment, but in SpeedGrader, the teacher is unable to see any annotations at all. It looks like the student has submitted a blank pdf without doing any of the work, even though we watched the student complete the work before submitting.

Any ideas on why this might be happening?

I also am having this issue where students said they submitted but are coming across blank. It is weird because it is only a few students, and repeat offenders. I am thinking they are doing something wrong. 

FYI I learned that in order to use the highlighter a PDF needs to be scanned in as OCR, not as an image.
