This is helpful. We use iPads and a lot of things do not display the same on that platform so I have to question a lot of the integration tools. Because of our filtering, the only thing we can do is put the direct link in the RCE, otherwise, we get a black box with no video.
Hey elopez302and @Bobby2 ! Just quick tip for the #YouTube LTI that I have found: There have been a few times where I have searched on YouTube to find a video before searching using the LTI. On a rare occasion, even when I copy the title of the video from YouTube and have pasted the whole title into the search field in the YouTube LTI, the search results do not turn up the video I wanted. However, I have had luck every time when I copied the URL of the video from YouTube and pasted it in when searching in the YouTube LTI in Canvas. May not be a big deal to some, but it has helped me several times in the past, so I thought I would share the technique.
You make a VERY good point there @ryan_corris ! Thanks for the reminder.
Thanks for the tip!
Since this is a current thread, I thought I'd see if anyone is encountering issues with the LTI? It was just reported to me by one of our Tech teachers and I'm not able to generate any search results when I try to use the tool. She noticed it yesterday. I've tried some basic things like "exponents" and pasted in a YouTube URL as well, but get "0 search results" each time.
Hey @audra_agnelly ! Sorry this is a little late. I spoke to Canvas Support and they were having problems with the YouTube integration, but all should be good now.
We are getting some pretty poor search results using the Youtube LTI in the RCE. Unfortunately @ryan_corris the trick of searching on the youtube URL isn't working for me. Is there some limitation on which videos the search will find? Is it looking for some copyright flag? The LTI description says "Search publicly available YouTube videos." I would think any video you can view in youtube would be public, understand it wouldn't find private videos. The video we want to find on Youtube itself has all the share options available.
I love the choice of size when embedding youtubes with the LTI. But if you have to first search in Youtube before using this it seems like too much work.
Perhaps the code in the LTI isn't optimal. Or the APIs Google provides for searches aren't optimal.
Hey @Nancy_Webb_CCSF ! Sorry to hear that you are having issues. I do not know what the specifics of the searches are, but I know from experience there have been times where I would type the exact title of the video and the LTI would not find the video. When I would search for the URL, it would find it instantly most of the time. I wish I had a better answer to give you, but what I know has just come from experience.
