How do you get Canvas to transfer a "completed" assignment as a "collected" assignment in PowerSchool using Grade Passback? The issue is that when you mark the student assignment complete, it shows up with points as a "0" and if you edit the assignment in Power School to "collected" within score type is removes all of the grades of a 0, and leaves the grade empty. I'm trying to get the checkmark to appear automatically or is this not possible?
Hello @mvolcskai . Were you able to get your question from so long ago answered? I'm sorry that no one replied until now. This document may help. How do I sync grades to PowerTeacher Pro in PowerSchool in the Gradebook?
Please let us know if you were able to get it worked out.
Good afternoon!
I hate to bump this up from over a year ago, but I find the indicated solution is not the solution, nor have I been able to find a solution or suitable workaround to this issue. I have tried countless methods to try and get the sync to register properly so PowerTeacher Pro will display certain assignments as Collected status only, but to no avail. Does anyone have a workaround that works in the interim until this loophole gets addressed by Canvas and PowerSchool?
Thanks to all for their suggestions! Take care!
I agree, there's no solution here...so why is this marked as "solved"?
As far as I know, the Canvas/PS grade passback will only send numeric scores, not statuses.
In Canvas, you can set an assignment to display as complete/incomplete, which will display the checkmark or the "x" in the gradebook. This is an all or nothing score. When that assignment is sent to PowerSchool using the grade passback, it will send that numeric score - full credit or zero - and display accordingly.
In your Canvas assignments, you need to make sure there's a point value in the assignment settings or else it defaults to 0 when it is sent to PS.
Frankly, there is no incentive for Canvas and PS to make their grading systems more compatible. Powerschool has their own LMS competing with Instructure and the Canvas passback system is feeling more like a relic each year.

I'm product manager over Instructure SIS integrations. We've been collaborating with PowerSchool on an updated integration for over a year now. We do have some clients on the new integration, but it still has some additional gaps that need to be filled by PowerSchool that has prevented us from migrating most existing districts to it. This new integration adds some additional options such as limited status support and eventually non-numeric grade support. Unfortunately, I do not believe that "collected" is a status that they've implemented at this time for us to use, but I will certainly talk with PowerSchool about getting additional support for more statuses added.
