Essay Grading Features in Canvas Quizzes and/or Canvas Assignments

I want to access the essay grading features (highlighting a section of an essay and providing feedback, etc.), but that feature is not available in Canvas quizzes or assignments? Apparently, the essay grading features are only available if a student submits writing from an outside program (like Google Docs)?

I simply want to assign a short essay in Canvas quizzes and access all the essay grading tools. Why and how can that NOT be available in Canvas quizzes and/or Canvas assignments?

The annotation tool that you normally see when a student submits an assignment to you (such as a Word document or a PDF file) are not available in Quizzes.  Those annotation tools are only available via the SpeedGrader for normal Assignments.  Even though you can view essay questions from Quizzes in the SpeedGrader, you do not have the same DocViewer interface that allows you the capabilities to annotate the essay.
