I have multiple item banks that I created through the assignments tab and then quiz/test. However, they do not show up as an item bank and do not transfer when copying a course. When putting a course in commons they do not show up anywhere but under my assignments tab in my original course I createded... Please help! My district switched to SIS ASPIRE linking of canvas courses and I need to copy my courses I have spent over 200 hours creating into my new SIS ASPIRE courses. Please Help. They do not copy my item banks!!!!
Hi
"When putting a course in commons they do not show up anywhere but under my assignments tab in my original course I createded."
I'm not surprised. A better way is to use Copy a Canvas Course under the Import Course Content under settings.
Settings >> Import Course Content >> Copy a Canvas Course >> Search for Course (with the New Quizzes)
Mark the select specific content. You'll then want to choose your new quizzes.
Good luck and I hope this helps.
Sorry, no help. I have done that. Everything transfers except the item banks. My assignments transfer with zero content in them. Gotta Love Technology...
Hi
I'm sorry. I believe that I'm misunderstanding your original post.
Item banks (new quizzes) are based on the teacher and not transferred by the course. They are course independent. My assumption was you meant quizzes weren't being transferred. Sorry.
Question banks (classic quizzes) are based on the course.
Can you clarify a bit more so that the proper information can be provided?
My quizzes are transferring with no content within them. I have tried to copy them as an import. I have tried putting them on commons. I have tried copying just the assignments/quizzes. Nothing works. What is the point of spending hours creating a course that will only be good for 1 year and then you have to redo everything the next year? I know what the problem is...just can't get an IT person or a canvas person to tell me how to get it fixed or how to have it fixed. I am just a teacher and so my ideas about what is wrong couldn't possibly be correct.
My district created my canvas course using my GOOGLE ID. I created all my courses over 18 months. Over 2,000 questions and 200 hours of work. Well, they thought it would be beneficial to sync everyone to Aspire SIS grade book. Well, in order to do this they changed my Canvas ID to my Microsoft ID. My canvas now has "split personalities" I call it. Within my district canvas instance I know have SIS courses that communicate and share items banks and Google courses that communicate and share items banks just not with each other. The IT stated, " I linked your email accounts so everything in the canvas should communicate." Well, it doesn't. Just because you connect emails does not mean you connect the directory paths. My canvas is split half my courses are google ID created and half are Microsoft ID created. So basically there is two of me in my Canvas instance. I feel this is what is keeping me from sharing, copying or using my item banks in my new Aspire SIS Microsoft created courses. I don't know how to prove this or get anyone to try and guide me on how to get my IT to fix this. I even tried adding myself to the Microsoft ID courses as a Designer then copy the stuff. It did not work. I am both the teacher and designer on my courses with the two ID's my IT department has given me. The second screencast I uploaded explains this more clearly.
Still unable to access my items banks within my canvas course. Problem is unresolved. Gotta love it! I have to recreate item banks for each course I make. I cannot use my item banks between my courses. This really sucks. I am recreating everything for every class period.
Hi
Apparently, when I asked my question, it wasn't clear as to the importance. The community members cannot help unless it is clear whether you are working with the classic quizzes and question banks or the New Quizzes and Item Banks. The difference is very important. My earlier post dealt with the classic quizzes. If you are working with the New Quizzes then everything is different: you cannot use the commons.

No, still have separate item banks. Going to just start from scratch!
