Hello, Tony! Welcome to Canvas Community!
First-off, I'm going to assume that you're working within an institution with a specific, paid-for Canvas instance (like a K-12 institution). Also, I'm going to assume you're the account admin (or work closely with the individual(s) who is/are). If neither of these things are the case, please let me know and I can help support in a different way.
Here are two articles that I find helpful, when it comes to managing users inside of a Canvas instance:
- Merging Users
- Deleting Users
I would recommend you look through those guides first, as they'll provide a broad overview of what exactly the functions are that you'll be performing as you clean up user accounts.
However, there are definitely some considerations to keep in mind as you're going through the clean-up process. Here are just a few of those considerations:
1) How were duplicate users created in the first place? Have those processes been correct?
2) Were users added via batch upload, or directly from the SIS? If so, have those users you no longer want been removed from the SIS so they don't repopulate?
3) Which duplicate accounts are active, and which ones are not? We would want to make sure if you delete anything, you don't delete active accounts.
There are few other questions I would probably think about (depending on your answers to these questions above), but this is. a good starting place. If you have any follow-ups or clarifications, please let me know. Thanks so much, have a great day!
