[Rubrics] Create a student-accessible rubric for self-assessments

Our nursing and OTA staff are using self-assessments to help students evaluate their confidence in the skills they are learning for certification. The idea is that they can take this assessment and choose if they want to share it, see what things they need to brush up on and reflect on their experiences. Currently they are doing this on paper but as we go to more online course work, they would like to integrate this as an online activity within a course.

The peer review rubric as it is set up now would work, but we also like the model of the tests you take on social media that tell you that you're 90% geek!

I'm so glad you found this idea so that you could connect with others that are interested with it as well.  We don't have any updates for this thread at this time, but please follow the idea to receive notifications as updates are available.

This would be a great feature. Essential for sustainable feedback and for supporting students self-regulated learning. We need to help students build awareness on how learning don't require teachers to identify and provide the information they need to learn, and that learning is not driven by others. Using teacher created rubrics is supporting the notion that learning is just about passing the criteria set by others, not an intrinsic motivated activity for self progression.

This has been on the Product Radar for almost two years...when will this happen? It would be a fantastic addition!

I'm not sure if this is included in the original vision of what folks had in mind with this idea, but I have faculty that are asking about the ability for students to grade themselves and have that grade show up in the gradebook.

The Radar idea stage has been removed from the Feature Idea Process.  You can read more about why in the blog post Adaptation: Feature Idea Process Changes.

This change will only impact the stage sort of this idea and will not change how it is voted on or how it is considered during prioritization activities.  This change will streamline the list of ideas 'open for voting', making it easier for you to see the true top voted ideas in one sort, here.

Hello!

Thanks for suggestion. The value in self evaluations with rubrics is very good practice.

Using low-stakes formative assessments ensure that mid-terms and exams are not the first measurements and communications of performance level. By providing detailed, meaningful, and timely feedback through formative assessments, students are:

  • actively involved in the learning process.
  • more accurately aware of their performance at many points in the semester.
  • given opportunities for improvement and reflection.
  • more likely to attend class and be actively engaged.
  • able to seek specific resources for additional support.
  • more inclined to ask for help.
  • more prepared for exams or high-stakes assessments.

Self and peer assessments are a key factor in this process. Thanks!

This is a really useful idea and would seem to be simple to implement. At the moment, students are excluded from peer-reviewing themselves so simply remove this exclusion and there it is - self assessments when required.

Wouldn't it be wonderful if it was just that simple....
