Can you take attendance in class view on a tablet or cellphone? Your tutorial seems to be geared only on pc use, and there are many features not present on the mobile app, like this one.
On my phone, when I tap attendance, the LTI opens in a small window that overlays the Canvas Teacher interface. Have you tried using a mobile browser like Chrome or Safari? Sometimes that experience works really well too!
