Hi Canvas Community
We have a use case where we would like to show grades/completion achieved in one course, in another course.
For example: There is a Lab induction course which is used by many award courses. A student is required to complete a compliance type course eg Lab Induction, prior to attending a face to face session in the Lab. We would like the teacher to be able to view who from their course has completed the Lab Induction course successfully, in the Lab Prac course.
Do you know of any way to achieve this in Canvas?
Thanks
Kim 😄

Hello @KimEdgar ,
There is no direct way to do this in Canvas, but there is a third-party tool that may help. My institution does not have this product, but ObservEd by CidiLabs, may be what you are looking for or close to it.
The only other option I can think of is giving the Instructor access to the course with a role that can only view grades and assignments.

Hi @KimEdgar,
Some background:
My institution has a "Research and Composition" course (ENG-105) and it has a required "Library Skills Assignment" (LSA) component that is sort of like a lab and teaches them how to do research using resources managed by our Library.
Students enrolled in ENG-105 are automatically enrolled into a corresponding LSA course shell. Faculty that teach ENG-105 are also automatically enrolled into the corresponding LSA course shell with a custom role that only gives them the ability to view grades. Librarians are full teachers in the LSA course shell and they grade the student's work.
ENG-105 faculty are expected to monitor their corresponding LSA course shell to (1) make sure the students complete the LSA requirement and (2) manually transfer the grade that their students received into their ENG-105 gradebook.
We did need to customize our SIS to Canvas data transfers to make this possible.
I hope this helps you.
Feel free to private message me if you would like more information.

Thank you MaryAnn, we are using other Cidilabs tools... I'll check out ObservEd. 🙂

Thank you Doug, that is a similar use case to what we have, and also a similar approach which has been suggested. Ideally we'd like to have the process automated, to save our Academics some leg work. Appreciate the reply! 🙂
