Linking Shells

Hi Brains Trust...

Does anyone know if there is a way to update information between shells....?

I am a teacher, and we teach a course which is broken up into 3 different phases. The students have a "home shell" which has assessment records for the entire three phases. They also have a separate shell for each phase. They submit assignments and complete sim assessments, and these results are all in the phase shells.

I want to have their assessment records update automatically in their "home shell" to reflect their completed assessments in their "phase" shell. That way when we come to mark, we just need to check to see all their assessments are complete and up to date in the "home" shell.

Can this be done within Canvas...? TIA...

Cheers,

Lloyd

The short answer to your question (can one Canvas course's gradebook automatically sync to a different Canvas's course gradebook?) is no.

To calculate the total grade for the phases in your home shell, you could use the gradebook export & import processes. How do I import grades in the Gradebook? Export grades from a phase. Export the grades from home. Add the total score from the phase CSV to the home CSV (be sure the student rows are aligned). Change the column heading to "Phase 1 Total" and put the points possible (probably 100) in row 2. Repeat for the other phases. Save the CSV. Import it to home, and Canvas should say new columns were found and offer to create assignments for them. The new assignments will represent the grades from the three phases. (Weighted grading should also be considered in the home shell, but I won't go into that in this initial reply.)
