When assigning a google doc I want my students to complete I use it as an external tool so each student already has their own copy. However, these assignments are not always assignments I want to grade, but are assignments I review to see how students are doing. The only way I have found to remove it from the grades is by taking the due date off, but then it ends up in 4th quarter grades. I was curious if anyone has found a way to remove an external tool assignment out of the grades. Although I have it marked as 0 points and don't count towards final grades, my students will continually ask about why it isn't graded if it shows up in the grades.
Thanks!!
Hi megan_julian,
After you create the assignment, can you go back in and edit it just like any assignment? If so, can you set it as an ungraded assignment? I haven't used the Google Docs tool, but I have external tool assignments linked from a publisher and I have that option. If you can do so, this should remove it from the grade book.
Hello there, @megan_julian and @gnoack ...
It just so happens that I responded to what I think may be a similar question yesterday, and I thought I'd share my findings with both of you. The discussion topic is: Re: How do I add or edit details in an assignment? - Canvas Community. I hope it will help to answer your question...thanks! Take care, stay safe, and be well.
Thanks, I didn't realize that would happen. I think checking "Do not count this assignment towards the final grade" is a better solution.
After the assignment is complete I edit and change to not graded so it no longer shows up in the grades.
