posting to my portfolio for the first time and having an issue

I hope you were able to post to your portfolio? There are two different resources that may help, if not. 
First, check out How do I use Portfolios as a student?  If what you see or have access to does not match that document, check out  Canvas Student ePortfolios. If neither of those help, please let me know and we can dig a little deeper.
