To Our Amazing Educators Everywhere,
Happy Teacher Appreciation Week!
Hi Folks,
We're getting an issue with Canvas and Canvas Studio whereby if an instructor sets up an assignment with Online> File Upload type, and student submits a Canvas Studio video, an error message is given within DocViewer saying 'Invalid Launch'. This error is shown to students in the submission receipt type page, but also for staff going into SpeedGrader to grade and there doesn't seem to be anyway for staff to view the video.
I think tied to this, our assignment submission screen for students has now changed to show a big submission button for Canvas Studio (image below) but this seems at odds with the online guidance (which I think had previously worked ok):
I have reported it to Canvas 'Tier 1' support but I don't know if they have access to a Canvas Studio install because so far their support is drawing a blank.
Any other Canvas Studio customers able to confirm if you also get this new Canvas Studio button and do you get this issue too? Here's a screen recording: https://youtu.be/mpz4Ykzpg5E
Thanks, Will (Liverpool, UK)

Hi, @willmoin , there's a known issue with Studio uploads for institutions that have turned on Assignment Enhancements. If this applies to your school, the support agent will most likely associate your case with the engineering ticket we have open for this; if they do not, please ask them to associate it with EVAL-1504 as noted in the KI doc.
Thanks.

Hi Stefanie,
Many thanks for this - that certainly looks like it doesn't it. I'll flag it up to the team there just in case and have a look at what the enhancement brings.
Best wishes, Will
Same issue here! We have entire classes having to redo assignments now at the end of the first week of school. 😞 I really wish I had remembered to catch this and send instructions, but even then, the button is so apparent that it would still have been used. I wish they would just remove it until it's fixed. Updated our ticket to include the EVAL info. Thank you Steph.
That's terrible @BethCrook , we've not got stung yet, our decision makers have decided to wait until Oct/November time for the assessment period and if no changes by then I think we might have to pull the Assignment Enhancement feature (more disruption as the interface changes for students). The issue first came up in January so I don't hold out much hope. Real pain because this was one of our real selling points for adopting Canvas, ease in which students can submit varying forms of assessment
I am having the same issue. I used Canvas Studio to record. It allowed me to record and save the video however when I went to upload the video it gave me an invalid launch error and won't let me upload.
Hi @BeckyRuiz!. Make sure you submit this with Canvas Support and please ask them to associate the ticket with engineering EVAL-1504 as noted in the KI doc.
(per @Stef_retired above 😉. I just like to sound like I know what I'm talking about. Sounded good, right?!)
Looks like they resolved it, I got this reply to the case below, and testing on our Beta it looks good now:
Your Canvas case 07922838 has been updated with a new message.
Hello, We've deployed a fix for this issue in our Beta environment. If all goes well, it will make it to the live Production environment on October 27, 2021. This ticket will remain in an "On-Hold" status until then. Admins and instructors: Feel free to try out the fix if you have time. As a reminder, your normal login should get you into Beta if you simply add ".beta" to your institution's Canvas URL (i.e. "canvas.beta.instructure.com"). Keep in mind that the Beta environment has outbound notifications disabled (it's for testing only). Apologies to any students who are receiving this message; testing in Beta is most often disabled for students at various institutions. However, rest assured that we are working to have this issue addressed soon. We will notify you of any changes to the status of this fix. We appreciate your time and attention - if you have any questions about this message or this fix, please feel free to contact Support. Keep Learning! Support Panda Notifier of Things
