Hi,
Is there a way (maybe with some web browser extension) to translate Studio video captions in any language?
I know you can generate or upload your own captions but what if we have a learner who needs a totally different language than expected? They can translate the content of a page easily enough (by right clicking on the page and selecting translate and choosing a language) but this approach doesn't effect the video captions.
Has anybody experienced this problem and found ways to overcome it?
Thanks
Hello @TDSFieldAdmin
It's possible there is a third party extension that can translate any text on your screen in real time, but there isn't a Canvas product that will do it for you if it isn't one of the supported languages. Which language is this for? An alternative may be downloading the transcript and then translating it to the language you need via Google or some other application. This won't be able to be uploaded to the video to watch in real time but it may be helpful. You may be out of luck, but maybe others have found some alternative to translate moving text in real time.
This would be for Portuguese. I know I can generate captions for this language, but our courses are accessed worldwide, so next week French may be needed and then maybe Dutch. So I'm looking for a way to essentially 'google translate' the captions of a video. But I haven't had much luck.
We offer transcripts under our video so this could be translated but isn't ideal as some of the videos are complex.
Please allow translations on Studio videos. You are doing a disservice to the English Language Learning community by not offering this.

If you would like to see this implemented as a part of Canvas Studio, you can submit your idea following the instructions in the section called "Ideas and Themes" located here: Instructure Community Guide - Instructure Community (canvaslms.com). In particular, check out the Guide on how to create a new idea.
I hope this will be of help to you.
