We’ve updated the Canvas LMS Question Forum user interface to provide easier access to answered and unanswered questions, upgraded the question feeds to match the new design throughout the Community, and made browsing and answering questions easier. These changes will roll out to the Canvas LMS Question Forum today and will roll out to other product question forums in the coming weeks and months.

We’ve also added a new Share button for earned badges. On the Badges tab on your profile page, you can share badges you’ve earned on social media using the provided text and links.

We refreshed and updated the Canvas LMS Release Notes pages with a clean design, added functionality, and easier back-end management. We also created a new Release Notes Archives page to let users easily browse and search older release notes. For now, these changes only apply to Canvas LMS Release Notes. Other product release notes will be updated in the coming months.

We updated the Instructure Community gamification structure with a brand new set of badges. The badges represent actions you take in and the value you add to the Instructure Community. The new badges also help you identify the credibility of members throughout the Community by giving you better context about a member’s participation in the Community. Instead of taking the traditional approach of ‘badging for bragging rights’ (where you get a badge for doing something ‘right’ and glowing about it to all your peeps), we are flipping the model and “bragging by badging right” (glowing about you to all our peeps for the right reasons)! We are repurposing badges as a way to give out digital compliments to our awesome members.

Canvas is a global solution, so providing quality guides in multiple languages has always been a top priority for Instructure. Guides in Chinese, Danish, Dutch, English, French, Norwegian, Portuguese, Spanish, Swedish, and Welsh have been available for some time. However, only English, Portuguese, and Spanish guides could be found on our community site. The limitations of our previous community platform made publishing and organizing multi-language documentation difficult, so we housed many of those guides in a location outside of our Community.

It can be difficult to pinpoint exactly when a community coalesces but since at least 2011 people have been interacting with Instructure and helping each other with Canvas in online forums and message boards. In those early days, a few hundred people were involved. Today, that community passes a significant milestone as more than 500,000 people have created user accounts. During this fall start in the northern hemisphere, more than 25,000 people in one 24-hour period were active in the community, commenting, voting, adding content and marking each other’s comments as helpful or the correct answer.

It gives us a place to communicate with our users but more importantly it gives our users a place to communicate with each other.
