Can I change my Canvas Community user name (NOT my Canvas user name)?

Hi, @RMBuck , whenever someone wants to change their username in this forum, they can post a question to the Community Users hub (which is where I've moved your question) and a member of the Community Team will assist. I'm sending you a DM now.

The member's username of choice needs to be clearly representative of who they are, as mentioned in the Be You section of What are the Canvas Community guidelines?

I have this same question. I'm a name, not a number. 😁  Is this something only admin / super users can do?

Does anyone know how to change the username of a student on canvas free for teacher there is no admin, just teachers that create the course?

Hi, 

I would like to update the 'Display Name' field in my Canvas Profile to read 'Tim Pafford' instead of my my full name, 'Timothy Pafford' if possible.  I tried to edit the field by clicking on edit settings but I am not able to update the display name.

Hi @hkydad37 -

If you are unable to adjust your Display Name, it could be that your school has decided to not allow that to occur. Please reach out to your school's tech support team. They'll be able to confirm if you can (or can't) update your name. They also may be able to do it on your behalf.
