Admin setting to Disable user setting Default Email Address in User Settings

It is preferred that our users not be able to change their default email address. We need them to consistently use their college email account for all school related communications.

A checkbox setting on the Admin - Settings page to disable "starring" an added email address as the default when the user goes to their Account - Settings page.

Problem statement:

Currently users are able to change their default email address. We currently have options to prevent users from deleting their institution-assigned email address and to prevent them from editing their communication channels. However, if we want to allow users to add their own personal emails, we aren't able to stop them from changing their default email address from their institution assigned email address to their personal email. If we have provided an institution assigned email address for a user, we want to keep that as the default email address. This helps with reporting, account audits, and when reviewing a user in the Canvas Admin area.

Proposed solution:

Provide an account setting that when enabled would lock a user's default email address to their institution assigned email address if they have one. This (in combination with other settings) would allow users to add personal email addresses, but they would always be considered secondary to their institution assigned email address. Users without an institution assigned email address would still be able to change their default email address.

As part of the new Ideas & Themes process, all ideas in Idea Conversations were reviewed by the Product Team. Any Idea that was associated with an identified theme was moved to the new Idea & Themes space. Any Idea that was not part of the move is being marked as Archived. This will preserve the history of the conversations while also letting Community members know that Instructure will not explore the request at this time.
