Create file history (like page history)

As software engineers, as the semester progresses the files (shared code that we upload to Canvas) are increasingly more complex. I had a student who was sick and didn't complete the project before I updated it to be the third version. Can we get version history on files like we have version history on pages? Or is there already a plugin that does that?

However, I believe this feature would be helpful for any professor, not just CS majors.  Consider a PDF that was accidentally overwritten in Canvas with the wrong file.  Or wanting to see the differences between two PDF files we've uploaded, etc. 

Also, where are the instructions for creating a canvas plugin?  I'm willing to contribute a feature like this, if that's possible.  Thanks!

As part of the new Ideas & Themes process, all ideas in Idea Conversations were reviewed by the Product Team. Any Idea that was associated with an identified theme was moved to the new Idea & Themes space. Any Idea that was not part of the move is being marked as Archived. This will preserve the history of the conversations while also letting Community members know that Instructure will not explore the request at this time.
