Engineers are currently investigating the issue.
We updated the default color options in the Text and Highlight color pickers in the Rich Content Editor (TinyMCE) to ensure accessibility when used against a white background. Because the Text and Highlight color pickers are linked in TinyMCE, this change also affected the default highlight colors.
In most cases, users apply highlighting to black text. The updated highlight color options now cause contrast issues in these common use cases, making highlighted text harder to read.
Highlight colors should provide sufficient contrast when applied to black text, as this is the most common usage scenario.
No workaround exists at this time.
Open the Rich Content Editor in any Canvas course (e.g., create or edit a page, assignment, discussion, etc.).
Type some text and ensure it displays in black (default text color).
Highlight a portion of the black text.
Click the Highlight color picker (marker icon).
Select one of the new default highlight colors.
Observe the contrast between the highlight color and the black text.
