To Our Amazing Educators Everywhere,
Happy Teacher Appreciation Week!
Engineers are currently investigating the issue.
When a course file link is copied to a new course using Canvas Course Export Package and a new version of the file is uploaded to replace the old one, the link pointing to the file would not automatically update to reflect the new file's ID.
As a result users run into error message Failed getting file to preview.
The RCE should replace the file ID for users who update content in the course files section.
No workaround exists at this time.
Prerequisite: Two courses.
Create a page with a link to a course file in one course.
Export the course with the page.
In the other course import the export package using the Canvas Course Export Package
option
In the new course upload a file with the same name as the existing file and select replace file.
Navigate back to the page and see the course file id didn’t update to the new one generating a Failed getting file to preview
error.
